Part 3, "..I like to move it move it..." :
So i did a real Trek ship...and it was the Sabre (Saber , for the yanks that could never speak a proper english ) class, and yes, i found the old lady and you can see her here.
Yes, i know it's not accurate at all, well i used all the help i could use, especially the one from Chris Gough, the guy that was in charge, as you can see here, he is partly responsible for the lack of precision, but hey, i can forgive him after all this time :)
At this time, there was another guy working at Utopia Planitia, his name is *drum roll* MARK KINGSNORTH *drum doll*, yes, the guy that commited the "Insignia class" a few months ago, that is the best semi-cannon Trek models ever built.
So there was that Marky dude there, and him & me became really good friends and shared a lot of models and techniques, he was my first real master at 3D ( isn't it cool, years after it was my time to teach him some tricks for building his insignia, life is so cool sometimes, always keeping things balanced ..), and i started to produce more ships, as you can see here, here, here and here...
At this time i met somebody else, somebody you guys know well, his name is Mike Wright ...yup, himself :)
Him & me became good friends, and of course, we began to have our ego respectively developing, and there was a big ego clash with the guy in charge of Utopia Planitia, i don't clrearly remember the reasons, i think Me & Mike wanted to do our own thing and he then blamed us for the death of Utopia Planitia...something along those lines...
So me & Mike left, while Marky-K was gone for his studies ( it seems he has always been studying that one ) ...and we founded "THE 3D WARRIORS" ....
The 3d Warriors...what a story :)
We decided that it would be cool to have a small place where to exchange ideas , and discuss ....we also knew a guy named Dave Raftery, and he got us a free version of the ubb ( yes, they had free versions in the past ), and we got our very own forums up and running in no time...
Of course, we invited some friends and all, and we had something quite cool , we even made a website at the www.3dwarriors.com address ( i don't own it anymore, shame, i know Darrell would kill his family to have it.. ) , ah the good old days...
The same year, i met 2 guys that were big big events in my online life, Peter 'Pedro' Savin , and Adam 'The Vorlon ( Vorleychops)' Heinbuch .
I met Pedro because i sent him an email about some ref pix he had on his famous site, and we exchanged several email , he was telling me how he hated 3D and how he loved building model kits...then one day he asked me to tech him a few 3D tricks and well, you guys know the rest :)
I met Adam at the site that had a name i don't even remember...not even SFCR ( StarFleet Comm Relay ) ...something else argh, help meeeee !...so i met him there, he was one of the guys there that was born with "the science of Trek nitpicking" already implanted into his brain, and for whatever reason i don't remember, he showed me his starships designs, for a reason i don't remember i liked them and decided with him to build them in 3D...
This is the story of the Eclipse class, the bad bad story....we had 2 problems, the first one was that Adam was a hell of a pain in the ass and wanted his ship accurate to the millimeter, and the second problem was that i wasn't so good at modeling and i was having a hard time modeling his goddamned ship :)
So as they say in Babylon 5 , it all ended in fire, with a terrible flamewar like i love to have them with worthy opponents ( not CAClark ) ...we almost destroyed Charles Capps's forums with that ( yes, we are from the ancient race that could destroy entire communities just by reading the forums ), and i can tell you that Charles Capps still wet his pants when he sees me and Adam in the same thread at his place :)
Where was i...ah yes, Adam H :)
So of course i didn't finish the Eclipse and we had a big argument about who owned the 3D models, so to end the issue i decided to erase the mesh from my Hard Drive and i think it was settled :)
Of course Adam and Me always had a strange relationship, you see, to the public eyes we were the worst enemies of all times, but during that time we always kept contact with each other over ICQ...We even talked about things...i think this is what happens when mutual respect exists, you always keep in touch with opponents you respect ( i don't talk with CAClark, for example hehe ) , that's what's great with the internet thing :)
This is the end of part 3...ah yes, a few more images :
