GET ON THE SCENE, LIKE A SEX MACHINE
A tutorial for all the people i fooled making them believe you needed 300 000 spotlights to do a good scene :) ..

Description
Right ... true that a scene with a good skydome will be great .. but in space, noone can hear you scream, so you don't really need 300 lights, especially for an animation ( animation is the contrary of "shitty beauty shot" ) where the nitpickers ( that must die immediately ) won't notice that the deflector dish is 1 inch too wide and so it doesn't match the diagrams seen in the fact files ..

TUTORIAL :
First of all, the usual Tachy-Maneuvre, good simple background, good ship, good camera angle..note, there is no light in the scene right now ..

Now i added a spotlight with raytraced shadows .. sure i could leave it like that it already beats 99% of what you can see in a few forums, but hey, i can do better :)..
[figure 2]
See how adding a dim blue light on the other side gives life to the image, i add some very soft shadows to this second light so we can see the details on the front of the ship..

I changed the colour of the nebula and gave it the colour of the second omni light..

Okay, i wanted to know how it felt to be a B5MG modeling idiot so i added a Lens Flare.. see how bad that is now, which really proved B5 modelers are really idiots :)..

Alright, that's a good exhaust for a big engine, i know it is not supposed to look like that for real .. hell anyway who knows .But one thing is sure, it does look good anyway :)
[figure 6]
I changed the main light's direction to give a better look

Done, and you can download the lil animation by clicking on the image, the rest of the anim is being rendered tomight so come back tomorrow for the exhausts part :)

My conclusion, well it speaks for itself, see what you can do with 3 lights and a good model ?
