3D TUTORIAL 22-09-2001
HOW TO CLEAN A BLOODY SMOOTHING ERROR A tutorial for ignorant people that probably own an illegal copy of 3dsmax because they don't read the [fucking] manuals ..
Description
There is something i hate above all, it is when people have the solution in front of their eyes and they just don't listen to what you're saying because they want their 3d model already rendered before even opening their rendering software, so they're going to do a shitty job and end up with one of the crappiest 3d model ever because they lack patience ...
I noticed that most of you guys don't know shit about cleaning a mesh and repairing smoothing error ( been there done that, but at least i know it ) and are desperate in front of defeat ...
SO here's a quick tutorial on "HOW TO CLEAN A BLOODY SMOOTHING ERROR BECAUSE I TRIED THE TOOL CALLED SHAPEMERGE BUT HERE I AM LOOKING LIKE AN IDIOT BLAMING THE SOFTWARE WHEN I AM THE TRUE ASSHOLE IN THE STORY" ..
TUTORIAL :
First of all, you need a simple extruded circle .. no fancy, just an extruded circle ( ok, a heavily detailed TOS starship nacelle for the "3d Trekkers" at "3d gladiators" ) .. [figure 1]
[figure 1]
[figure 2]
Very difficult now if you didn't read the manuals ... draw a rectangle in front of the extruded circle .. [figure 2]
Right, if you managed to do all that, there is hope ...maybe.. Now, "shapemerge" the rectangle to the 3dGladiators nacelle ... err the extruded circle i mean, then apply an Edit Mesh modifier, select by vertex and witness the mess you just created... oh my god, a lot of vertices between the segments ...
Notice than normally, any 3d d***head that just don't give a damn about doing a cool clean mesh will go right ahead and add more details, complaining afterwards that 3dsmax is a piece of shit because his TOS model that have a few cylinders as saucer, stardrive and nacelles is already 150 000 polygons ...
So Here is your salvation by Cyrille "Jesus H. Christ" Lefevre ( me ), and it is explained in the next illustration !

[figure 3]
[figure 4]
Inspect the mesh and notice the unnecessary vertices ... here for example you have this one with the red circle around that is useless, select it , in the Edit Mesh parameters, go to the WELD parameters, click on TARGET, and drag the vertex on the one right next to it that intersect with the segment ...then do that for ALL ( i said ALL ) the vertices you see that are "outside their jurisdiction" ...
If you do it well, you have a clean mesh like in figure 5... if you don't have it .. then you can stop doing 3d rendering and try to find another hobby !
[figure 4]
That's a clean mesh man.... .. [figure 5]

Now you can Extrude, bevel, it will always look cool .. [figure 6]
My conclusion, Next time i see anybody asking for how to clean a mesh, i am going to get mad ... so if you have friends that have this handicap, just forward this page to them and they will finally see the end of the tunnel.
